    New movies coming up:

Trigun the Movie Dated for Next Spring
The story is set in Makka, a town surrounded by quicksand. With rumors spreading that the legendary robber Gasback has his sights set on the town, the mayor Kepler has brought together bounty-hunters to protect the town. These bounty hunters have been following Gasback from town to town in hopes of bagging the prize. Meryl and Milly, two characters previously seen in Yasuhiro Nightow's manga and the later television anime series, have come to town to assess the situation as insurance agents, but are shocked by this turn of events. Moreover, Vash the Stampede is also in town, along with the female bounty hunter Ameria and the fan-favorite character Wolfwood.
    ...
Masaya Onosaka, Sho Hayami, Hiromi Tsuru, and Satsuki Yukino reprise their roles of Vash the Stampede, Nicolas D. Wolfwood, Meryl Stryfe, and Milly Thompson, respectively.

For those of you in the States, tonight (Monday) on the SyFi channel's Ani-Monday at 11:pm EDT they are starting to show Monster. It's one of my all time fave anime.

Ah, I completely forgot Monster premiered Monday! I was hoping to catch it No
Thanks for the info. on the Trigun movie; I've been trying to find something about it but wasn't having too much luck. From the description, it sounds like it's going to be a standard shonen anime movie (i.e. an extended episode). Funny though, I was under the impression that the movie would be set after the show...

Not more than two days ago I said, "Hey! Wasn't there supposed to be an Eden of the East movie out by now?" I looked and couldn't find any new torrents and then this evening I find this posted at ANN.

Some flunky over at ANN wrote:Eden of the East II Film Expanded, Delayed Until March

The anime studio Production I.G has announced on Wednesday that Eden of The East the Movie II: Paradise Lost, the second film sequel to the Eden of The East anime series, has been delayed until March. The film was originally scheduled for January 9. The company cited "production issues" for the delay, since the company had initially planned two 60-minute film sequels. However, as the story structure of the films expanded, the company extended the runtime of the first film sequel to 82 minutes. The second film sequel is now slated to run for 90 minutes.

The first film sequel, Eden of The East the Movie I: The King of Eden, will open as planned this Saturday in Japan.

Anime in America: Theron and Carl’s Best (and Most Notable) of 2009

An interesting article. Since it covers anime released in America during 2009, it talks about titles old (NANA, Monster) and new (well, newer). Carl and Theron discuss their picks in a number of categories but their top animes of the year were:

    Carl’s Pick: NANA
    Runner-Up: Honey and Clover
Best of the Rest: Monster, Baccano!, Skip Beat!

Theron’s Pick: Moribito – Guardian of the Spirit
    Runner-Up: Baccano!
Best of the Rest: NANA, Spice and Wolf, Romeo X Juliet

We just might get those books published yet! =0)
Those are all great titles. In the rest of the article they talk about other good ones, too.

If any of you get a chance to see the excellent "Summer Wars", there's a little Moribito link. The role of Ryouhei (the "Baseball Boy") is a rare appearance by Naoto Adachi, who was, of course, Chagum.

I recommend this film highly. It's directed by Mamoru Hosada (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) and I think it's an even better film.

Summer Wars is the best movie to come out of Japan in quite a while. It keeps popping up in the news and is being shown at various cons and festivals. If you're anywhere near MIT you can see it for free on March 1st. Too bad it won't get any traction outside the otaku and geek communities in the States.

As you may or may not be aware (or care), Ponyo was released on dvd last week. Best Buy had it for $17.99 - an unprecedented price for a Miyazaki film which usually go for $23.99. I went back there tonight and was annoyed to see that they had bumped it up to $19.99 - still four bucks cheaper than the usual price. …but then I saw, upon the shelf a new edition of My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service and many others for $19.99 each. Almost every Miyazaki title that they hadn’t already had in stock was there in a new edition at the lower price. I snatched the Totoro one as it was the last copy there. It’s even a two disk set.

So if you’ve been waiting for Miyazaki dvds to come down to a more reasonable price, your wait is over.

I went to Best Buy today. It seems that they are having a sale on selected Funimation titles, and it’s a good one, half off on a lot of stuff. I checked it out and they seem to have the same deal going online.

I picked up these dvds (but they have bluerays on sale too):

Shigurui: Death Frenzy complete series (12 episodes) $15
xxxHolic complete first season (24 episodes) $20
Baccano! complete series (16 episodes) $20
Sgt Frog season two part two (11 episodes) $17.50

There are other titles to be snapped up but I couldn’t really afford the $75 these added up to. I may be hitchhiking to work next week as it is.

The Live action Moyashimon is streaming free at ANN. That's the one about the college freshman who can see microbes with his bare nekked eyes.
