So what do you guys watch...?

Besides anime?

I've semi depresed that Battlestar ended, watched that faitfully since it's inception of the mini series. Right now, I'm looking for a new show to fill the void...but I haven't really found one totally, except a quirky cop show called, "Life." It's brilliant, IMO.

Other than that, TV hasn't been to great as of late, and a lot of good shows have been canned way to early, or just not giving to much of a chance... =/

I actually haven't been watching much anime lately.

I pretty faithfully watch Heroes, but not much else. I started watching Kings, but I just heard that it's getting the axe and may not even run the whole season.

I've also started to watch Dollhouse, since I tend to like Whedon's stuff, but I wish there was more attention given to the rest of the cast, rather than the story always being focused on Eliza Dushku.

I don't watch much tv. Even if I like the show - and there are a lot of good ones - the infuriatingly insulting and never-ending commercials drive me away. Any shows I really want to see I download. That way I get to watch them at my convenience without the commercials.

The ones I see these days are Dollhouse and Robin Hood. Dollhouse had just barely managed to keep my attention. It's finally starting to get interesting but has been a big disappointment for something from Whedon. Robin Hood is from the BBC and has just started it's third season. It starred (the character is gone now) Monica Lewinski as Maid Marion and still has Billy Joel as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Oh, I also watch Good Eats whenever I catch it.

I've been into the "buddy cop" shows a lot lately. NCIS is on pretty much every night at my house (tho I don't know if that counts as a "BCS" or not). Another show I've been watching is Castle. I loved Nathan Fillion in Firefly, so when I heard he was starring in a new show, I had to check it out. Ooh, another show I've really gotten into is The Big Bang Theory. Hilarious show. Hmmm, other than those I haven't really watched much TV, except the occasional re-run on Adult Swim.

Yeah, I downloaded the 1st epsiode of Dollhouse, but didn't catch my attention even for Wheadon. But I did like Eliza Dushku in Tru Calling, tho. That was interesting show to kill time with. The premise was semi orginal.

That's why I DVR it, or download the shows. No commericals, and it's always a plus unless I really like the show, then I'll tolerate it. Then again, I'm usually working when my stuff is showing, or the other half is watching her stuff, and she gets the TV (Since I'm usually not a big fan either, overall) The last thing I liked about BBC, even thought it was campy as hell was "Merlin."

Hahaha. I would for sure check out, "Life," even thought it appears to have been canned. The first season was brilliant, even if the premise wasn't great, but the acting and the intereration was top notch. At least of yesterday we got semi closer, even if was anti climatic. Ending is still an ending, tho.

Castle. I saw previews, but...I'm not to sure. I'm afraid to get into TV Shows that get canned once you get into it. Pushing Dasies, Wonderfalls and Dead Like Me (Same Creator, BTW) so it sucks. =P Well, compared to reality shows that need to die, IMO. Really need to die, and I can't believe people actually BUY DVD's of this. It's unreal.

It's like you read my mind. I agree with pretty much everything you said (wrote?). I loved Dead Like Me when I first saw it and then BOOM! canceled. Same thing happened with Firefly. I sometimes question the collective intelligence of the viewing public.
Oh, about Castle, it is a little formulaic and predictable, but I like the writing and the acting is great. You should really give it a chance.
BTW, another show I really enjoy is Dexter. It's not exactly recent, but this show has to be one of my all-time faves. Dark humor at its best

Hahaha. Dexter...My wife loves that show, so it's more of hers. I'm more of a sci fi/drama/Fantasy nerd, so I'm a little quirky. Or as someone put it earlier, "Dramatic" for a combnation of drama and comedy, or stuff like that.

Yeah, there is a lot of shows that we're canned WAAAAAY to damn early for it's own good. =/ Firefly is a good example, and I do have the DVD's of that. Campy shows are cool too, Airwolf from my child hood is a prime example. Another good one was, "Dead Zone" with Hall.

I'll see if I can nab Castle, tho. See how that goes, and let ya know what I think, but won't really have time until week or two since the mother in law is coming down this Saturday.

I guess I'm just out there, long it has a good sense of direction in acting and writing I tend to be sold, but it seems to get lesser and lesser as of these days. So I've pretty much given up. =P

Reality is cheap to produce, so there is your answer, I suppose.

Sounds like your wife has good taste, lol. I also like sci-fi/fantasy shows a lot; probably why I latched onto Firefly.
I lol'd at your last comment. Since when have any of those shows been realistic? Seriously, it's like the "stars" are from a different planet or something.

Bingo. As long as people keep watching that crap they will happily keep producing them. I remember when it was all game shows for the same reason. I also strongly object to calling them "reality" shows. What is real about them? Let's take a bunch of people who would never have anything to do with each other and make them live together then film what happens.

BTW, I heard that they are going to make a spin-off of The Deadliest Catch about what the fishermen do in the off season which is mostly blow their money on booze, hookers and doctors to cure their resulting std's. It's going to be called The Deadliest Crotch.

"Reality Shows" are in reality scripted, they just suck all around, and it appeals to mass folks. American Idol, Survivor, and all of that junk. It's increidable that people are this blind...or easily amused. It's almost kinda scary, and that's one of the reasons why I turned to "Anime," needless to say. Alot of it is crap, but it's still leagues ahead of "Reality." Granted, I'm really picky in what I watch, tho...and these last seasons of anime have been utter ****.

I've heard of it, never watched it, tho. The only really BBC I've been watching is "My Family," with the other half for she loves it. Other than that, no. They tend to say UK Sci Fi is horribly bad, and it does have some truth to it.

After the weekend I'll check out the pilot if I can find it, tho. But I've really been lazy on that yard work, so I need to catch up on that before the heat goes through the roof (It's almost hitting 90's here already). Talk about from a rebound from a cold snap. =/

Well, I officially decided I'm going to be waitin' on shows. =/ This season sucks, hands down so far, kinda like the anime season for the most part (Except Eden, which I'm still waitin' on, tho)

I'm kinda holding up for Caprica, tho. The Direct to DVD was pretty dang good, IMO. Even if did seem a little emo in the beginning, tho. But I guess you always have to get a story going somehow, eh?

I won't spoil it more than that for the fans of BSG. =)

I just finished watching Satoyama II Japan's Secret Watergarden. (2.18 gb) It's one of those nature documentaries narrated by David Attenborough. It's about how the rural Japanese have a long established system of living with the nature around them. It's quite remarkable how, in fairly densely populated areas, their streams and ecosystems are kept quite healthy if not completely natural. Why wasn't the West ever that sensible? Interesting stuff if you're into that kind of thing.

Right now I'm downloading part one from 2006. (639 mb)

Edit: Never mind that second torrent from 2006. It's the same show - probably from the first time it aired.

Since it's gotten colder out, and my desktop is out in the cold part of the house I'm rather limited to what I can do now, but at any rate...

I've really started to enjoy Criminal Minds, ALOT. Maybe I'm a serial killer in disguise, but who knows. Hahaha. Interesting premise I suppose, and a fantastic way to kill time while it's cold, and stay comfy. I also did like Stargate Franchise's, but I'm ready to drop Universe. It's a crappy version of BSG rehashed with crappiness. =/ I don't know how else to explain it.

Anyone else seen anything good lately to pick up, or no?

What you need to do is move your computer to the warm part of the house. Maybe you should move the wife to the cold to make room. Then you can go to the cold room to warm her up. =0D

There is a lot of stuff on tv that makes me say, "What made them think anyone would want to watch that?" There is a new show on some home improvement channel about guys who do demolition without tools. What made them think anyone would want to watch that? Well...once...maybe.

Now that you mention it, there are a lot of similarities between Battlestar and Stargate Universe. It's full of uninteresting and/or unlikable characters, for one. I couldn't make myself watch Battlestar past the pilot (I tried hard. I really did.) even though it's the type of sci-fi show I have loved since I was a kid. At least ST-U isn't based on a 40 year old plot. I'll probably watch at least another episode or two, if not the whole season.

It's not like it has a lot of competition. There doesn't seem to be much of anything to get excited about this season. Not even in anime.

Too much work to move it, really. =O Not that I mind totally to be honest, I can do a lot of Video Conversion's during this time since it's so cold. =) I'm in agreement with you about moving her, tho. Only if she really did. =P Plus, I'm in the process of getting the whole PSX collection. 350 Gig's, woot! =P

Hehe. Yeah, I've given up on Universe, I think, tho. =/ I'll give it one more show to see what they are going to do...and if doesn't move anywhere, then I'm done. I mean, there is so much you can do for 6 shows and plot doesn't move. =D Kinda like that with "V" too. I saw that last night, and...didn't catch my interest. All these "Remakes" are driving me nuts, and nothing original. They wonder why they can't come up with new numbers to keep them substantiated. I do agree with you, this is another very craptastic anime season, well, I really think nothing good has totally come out since 07, well, solid seasons at any rate. A few gems here and there, tho...like Erin.

'V' was a good show back in the 70's as I recall. I haven't seen the new one yet - it's still downloading.

I have all of Erin that is available now but I haven't watched any of it yet. There has been some good anime since 2007. Just off the top of my head, I really liked Mitchigo e Hatchin and Eden of the East. There was Basquash from last season, too.

Did ya get a chance to watch it? I mean, it's not bad...it just seems very "rushed," and ya would think they would slow down a bit with the cast they have (Pretty descent cast, IMO) and do it right. We shall see, but as I've said at this moment for the pilot felt very rushed in the end.

The only show I'm watching on a regular basis now is, "Criminal Minds," and "Merlin" for it's a funny campy, well, "Merlin" is anyways. I really hate reality shows, but...cheap to produce as I've said earlier, but I hope we do see a resurgence of scripted shows.

I haven't been watching much tv at all since Mini Nova went down. I still have a site where I can get some of what like, but there were a lot of shows I quit watching when that happened. Can't watch much actual tv. The commercials drive me away, which explains why I know nothing about most of the shows that are on like Criminal Minds and Merlin. I've heard of them but have no clue what they are about. I guess I don't really want to know. TV just takes away from computer time. =0)

Has anyone else been watching Sora no Woto?

Elsewhere I had posted about it and got into an argument with someone who was dismissing it as just another moe show. I got him to watch the first four episodes - all that had been subbed at the time and argued further with him. I pointed out depth to the story and made some educated guesses about where it was going.

I just finished watching the end of it and was astounded that my predictions about the story weren’t too off base. I’m usually only right about my political predictions, not my literary/cinematographic ones.

I said after watching four episodes:

I wrote:Here’s the way they have been foreshadowing the story: Just about the time they have the tank mostly repaired, the enemy will make a push deep into their territory and these six women will have to defend the town. Using their rare and powerful tank they will hold off the invading army and defend the town until the main army comes to the rescue. The girls will be national and local heroes and will receive many honors - posthumously.

Then I wrote:…that they must locally produce tank parts. I believe the tank is a relic from early in the war, and that the country no longer possesses the infrastructure and know-how to produce them. I also believe that this is true of their enemies, else they would have overlords instead of an armistice. Which is why I think that if they can get the tank up and running they just might be able to hold off an enemy attack since the enemy won’t have any such powerful machines.

By not “too off base”, I mean that the above wasn’t quite how it ended up but that I was in the neighborhood. If you want to know how it really ended, you’ll just have to watch it.
